Watch Cleaning: Clean Oil
& Adjust (COA)

Watches are typically cleaned by removing each and every wheel,
spring, and gear one at a time. Then the next step is to clean each one with a
special cleaning solution. The main problem that most movements face is that
they become rusty at some point. The crown or stem gets loose water creeps in an
the watch then runs slow and will very quickly spread if not caught in
time.
Some parts need to be cleaned in order
to remove the rust and sometimes the new parts need to be replaced. Then the oil
is added and oil is necessary part of the watch in order to decrease friction
between the parts. Next the watch must be adjusted in order to make sure that
all parts are put back in correctly. The last and final stage of a proper clean
oil and adjust of a watch is to regulate the movement. Here at Jones & Son
we allow for a one week observation period to let the movement sit and be
observed by one of our expert watchmakers in order to make any minor
adjustments that the watch which may need to function properly.
